GPC-ICT, our Riyadh-based member of The GPC Group of companies has been commissioned to support NEOM in the planning and design of the NEOM Environmental Information Management System (NEIMS). This system will guide the design and development of people, assets and programs for data management and service delivery to both internal and external stakeholders and bring what NEOM intends to be a new and different approach to environmental management.
NEOM is a centerpiece of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 and the largest of the Kingdom’s gigaprojects to diversify the Saudi economy. Development in NEOM is driven by a powerful approach to environmental conservation and regenerative development at scale to meet the challenges facing the world, creating a new blueprint for sustainability.
NEOM’s Environment Department is committed to:
- Protecting NEOM’s environment against risks and harms from human activities, as well as the public from risks and harms of human-induced environmental change;
- Promoting the sustainability of all development activities, including the design, construction, and operation of the built environment; and
- Ensuring the conservation, protection, and enhancement of marine and terrestrial species and ecosystems.
NEOM’s Environment Department collaborates with NEOM Sectors and external partners in achieving its goal of sustainable and regenerative development. To support this, the NEIMS will collect, manage, apply, and deliver environmental data and information products.
Commenting on the partnership, Peter Fippinger, Director of Governance, Policy and Strategy in NEOM’s Environment Department and NEIMS project manager, said: “A commitment to wise and sustainable environmental management is a core objective of the NEOM vision and we see the NEIMS as a critical enabler for the achievement of this vision of creating a new, world-class environmental management system. We look forward to working with our internal and external stakeholders and the GPC team to develop a system that both incorporates the best new and emerging technologies as well as integrates and interoperates with other information infrastructure across the NEOM organization.” Mark Sorensen, founding partner of the GPC Group says “we are honored and excited to be supporting NEOM in achieving their environmental aspirations – we have been involved in many community development and environmental management projects around the world but none as visionary and expansive as what is being developed at NEOM”.
The GPC Group has partnered with Vista Data Vision (VDV) company to carry out this project. VDV, based in Reykjavik, Iceland are experts in the integration and analysis of data from all manner of instruments including environmental monitoring systems. VDV will contribute to the planning and design of the NEIMS.
NEOM is being built on the Red Sea in northwest Saudi Arabia as a living laboratory – a place where entrepreneurship will chart the course for a new future. NEOM will be a destination and a home for people who dream big and want to be a part of building a new model for exceptional livability, creating prosperous businesses, and new ways of looking at sustainability.
