Last week in Abu Dhabi – at the Esri Middle East and Africa User Conference (MEAUC), Samer Joudi, a GPC Senior Consultant drew attention with his presentation on ‘SDI’ for ‘Smart Development Infrastructure’. Samer argued that “A new approach to ’Smart Development Infrastructure’ is to look at mitigating disparate projects and uncoordinated data in a way that the development focus would leverage a governance-driven information infrastructure to address the needs of the citizens and communities, and to better develop and utilize information infrastructure in support of development objectives”. The event brought together GIS experts from all over the MENA region, with presentations and deeper discussions following a range of topics such as Enterprise GIS, ArcGIS, GIS in the EXPO and so forth.
Many entities also had exhibitions stands which attracted a wide range of people, from potential clients to groups of school children learning about the value of GIS capabilities in society. GPC had its own exhibition booth for the duration of the three day conference, alongside others such as Bayanat for Surveys and Mapping, Abu Dhabi Systems and Information System and the Department of Municipal Affairs Abu Dhabi.
