In the context of the Geo Intelligence summit that took place on the week of May 13, 2012 in Abu Dhabi, GPC Group management met with the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) director of Standards and key OGC founder to address areas of joint collaboration. GPC Group has initiated in 2011 with OGC a consultancy agreement to serve the needs of the MENA region.
Areas of collaboration between GPC Group and OGC addressed consultancy and advisory support for clients on the application of Geospatial standards and interoperability practices in their organizations, capacity building in the form of professional development as well as specially configured orientation and educational workshops focused on the specific needs and requirements of the clients in their particular domain areas. Notwithstanding their implementation scale, geospatial standards, which are an integral component of the Geospatial Information, Technology & Services (GITS) development methodology by GPC Group, are analyzed from the business, institutional, and technical perspective with the purpose of balancing GITS readiness versus utilization by the end users. This is achieved through a hands-on capacity building process towards developing geospatial solutions that matter to the clients! Concurrently, one of the cornerstones of GPC Group and OGC activities is to map geospatial standards development to the business value for the stakeholders.
