The AD-SDI helpdesk support function was conceived as part of the institutional capacity building of the Spatial Data Center (SDC) that is responsible for the coordination, facilitation, and support of the AD-SDI program under the aegis of the Abu Dhabi Systems & Information Center (ADSIC- currently ADDA) the e-government body in Abu Dhabi Emirate. During the first five years of the center establishment, GPC provided, in addition to other support functions, operational support activities for SDC including helpdesk. The helpdesk played a pivotal role to support the evolving needs of the AD-SDI community that grew from 9 stakeholder entities in the first year to more than 70 entities within the same period. The AD-SDI program via its helpdesk supported various G2G, G2B, and G2C applications across whole of government via varying channels including, but not limited to, the following:
- Geoportal and data clearinghouse serving 1000+ of government end users, several millions of public visits, and sharing 700+ data layers
- e-Government portal hosting 1400+ services with several 100s of spatially enabled services
- Whole of government customer call center (CRM) complemented by a citizen reporting application spatially enabled by AD-SDI services
- Several spatial applications and tools used to spatially enabled stakeholder entities websites and applications across various disciplines and sectors including but not limited to utilities & infrastructure, urban planning and community development, statistics & census, safety & security, oil & gas, environmental and natural resources, and others
Key support services for the AD-SDI helpdesk
- Provided a two-tier helpdesk support to the AD-SDI community members: This included configuring, implementing and operating the AD-SDI Service Desk system to effectively manage the community requests, and developing the standard operating procedures for the service requests, incidents, and change management based on international standards of ISO 9001:2008 for Quality Management Systems
- Provided support to the stakeholder entities on spatial analytics and data utilisation: This comprised providing thematic and analytical maps using various cartographic techniques and concepts, and performing spatial analysis type of functionalities using various geo-processing tools and models, to stress certain concepts or act as a presentation of spatial data for decision support
- Supported spatial awareness building to the stakeholder community: Conducting orientation sessions about the program and its objectives to potential and new community members, demonstrating the Abu Dhabi Geospatial Portal with its various services and applications, and discussing with the members the possible ways to utilise the capabilities of the portal and its services in the current infrastructure, by sharing the business and technical experience, knowledge, and best practices.
- Supported the provision of various types of spatial data and services to the AD-SDI community via several community related and services providers related agreements: Throughout the evolution of the AD-SDI program services over time, the AD-SDI helpdesk evolved its support services to accompany the maturity, breadth and depth of complex services provisioned by the AD-SDI program to the member stakeholder entities via the following: community master service level agreements, technology vendors enterprise license agreements and MOUs, imagery services agreements, and others
