Study and Design Phase for the Implementation of the National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI) Program – UAE
đź”· Solution Overview
The project supports the Federal Center for Geographical Information (FGIC) in coordinating and leveraging government investments in geospatial data and applications across the UAE. It establishes the institutional, technical, and governance foundations required to enable effective data sharing and utilization across government entities and society.
đź”· Main Objectives
- Establish a national framework for geospatial data sharing and coordination
- Define governance, institutional, and operational models for NSDI
- Develop policies, standards, and procedures for geospatial data management
- Enable integration and interoperability across federal entities
- Provide a structured roadmap for NSDI implementation
đź”· How GPC Empowers the Client
Drawing on extensive global experience in Spatial Data Infrastructure programs, GPC enabled FGIC to define a common governance and collaboration framework at the federal level.
The engagement translated international best practices into a localized implementation strategy aligned with UAE priorities. It delivered a structured program design supported by detailed procedures, methods, and implementation guidelines, enabling stakeholders to execute the NSDI program effectively.
đź”· The Bottom Line
The project established a well-defined framework for the implementation of the UAE NSDI program, aligned with the nine pillars of the UN-GGIM Integrated Geospatial Information Framework (IGIF).
It resulted in a comprehensive program design and a 4-year implementation roadmap, providing FGIC with a clear path to develop a nationally integrated geospatial ecosystem supported by governance, policies, standards, and coordinated execution.
